Two sisters, one journey, a dream and a project come to life.

Maraea Maraea is born from the fusion of seas, cultures and ways of life through a unique product – the Tahitian pearl. But, like any project, it is also born from a dream, a life experience and hope.

¡Hola!

Our names are Sara and Paula, and we welcome you to Maraea, our digital home and an online display window where you can find exclusive hand-made pieces which are all bound together by the Tahitian pearl. Our brand saw its beginnings in 2021, when we decided to turn an idea into a project that reflected our spirit of adventure, personal experiences and desire to offer a hand-made product of excellent quality.

We are two sisters born in Asturias, Spain, with something in common: that we have both travelled the world and discovered, after returning home, that we wanted to begin a new adventure together. Each time we would come back to Asturias from one of our trips, our friends and family would notice the pieces we were wearing showing off the Tahitian pearland encouraged us to take our passion further by starting a business.

When we saw the opportunity to settle down once again in Asturias, we knew the moment had come to turn our humble dream into a reality – and so Maraea was born. Our logoreminds us of the mountains found in Bora Bora seen from Taha’a Island, where our pearls originate.

Maraea is a Tahitian name which means red earth: mountains, seas, tides, it evokes the place from where our raw material grows. Today it is also our Asturian brand of jewellery, elaborated with pearls cultivated in the Taha’a lagoon, part of French Polynesia.

PAULA. I discovered my passion for pearls and crafts on the island of Taha’a.

My vital journey begins when I leave with a great friend for Australia without a return ticket, two years in a hotel located in a surf town, another two as stewardess manager on a luxury yacht around the world, until I went to visit French Polynesia, and I fell in love with the place. There I found the Tahitian pearl and spent 7 years working on the Champon family pearl farm, today being the supplier of our business.

At that stage I discovered my passion for artisan work, done with my hands, and my preparation for this project has been direct experience with the product working in the sector.

I have always considered myself very curious, brave, strong and a lover of my family and my little land, where I now live with my little 5-year-old Moetai, dedicated 100% to Maraea and where I like to share part of my lived experiences, with mine already who can come through this new project together with my sister.

SARA / I am the older sister and the other half of Maraea, where I develop my creativity and passion for craftsmanship.k

Raised between Asturias and the Canary Islands, I always had a passion for traveling and discovering different countries and cultures. In 2004 I started my journey in Edinburgh where I went to learn English, study and work…When I returned to Spain I worked as a flight attendant and later in the America’s Cup for two different teams. I was also involved in the Volvo Ocean Race and my last job was in London, in Formula E. Thanks to all these jobs I was lucky enough to fulfill my dream, travel the world, meet incredible people and places and, above all, see a lot of crafts, which is something that fascinates me.

The pandemic prompted me to return to Spain with my two children and my admiration for the work done with my hands and for the pearls was what encouraged me, together with Pau, to start this new adventure. It is a huge turn in my life since I never dedicated myself to crafts, but thanks to the passion I feel for it and together with the knowledge of my sister, working side by side, I feel very confident.

I love living back on my land. I am happy near the sea, enjoying my family, love and friends, living to the fullest and being able to reconcile Maraea with taking care of my children in a rural environment

Maraea’s spirit: artisanal gems designed using Tahitian pearls, a unique, exclusive and creative style

Maraea jewels embody our own lifestyle: young, free, modern, bohemian. Our designs are notfound in traditional jewellery shops All our pieces are completely made by hand in our workshop. They are exclusive and made using high quality products such as gold, silver or leather.

Our pearls originate from the Champon family farm, situated in Taha’a, whose values and philosophies are linked to minimizing environmental impact whilst respecting the pearl’s production times and harvest seasons. As such, their product is notable for its high quality rather than its quantity, unlike many other farms who work in wholesale.

Our creative process for each design is exclusive and unique: from design selection and naming the piece, to the drilling and crimping of the pearls. We also make personalised pieces, adapted to your taste – we want you to have a design that will make you stand out. We personally take care of all the processes our brand requires: design and development of the pieces, relations with our provider in Taha’a, marketing, corporate image, an e-commerce platform, messaging and shipments.

New tendenciesinspire us, as do the sea, green Asturias, nature, the seasons, light and our own lived experiences.

That is why we say that behind each of our jewels there aretwo stories.

  • The first storywe design ourselves, with inspiration, creativity and a lot of motivation
  • The second story isbegun by you, when you acquire one of our pieces
